BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise
The BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise provides students the chance to explore what it takes to plan, set up and run their own business. It’s a hands-on course designed for learners who enjoy practical work, real-life examples and creative thinking.
Students will learn how entrepreneurs turn ideas into successful products and services, how businesses promote themselves, and how they manage their finances. The course is equivalent to one GCSE and helps students develop key skills that are valued by employers and colleges alike.
This course also enables students to develop personal skills such as creativity and innovation, time-management, reviewing, communication and planning.
What Will Students Study?
The course is made up of three parts:
Component 1: Exploring Enterprises Students look at different types of small businesses and find out what makes them successful. They will explore how entrepreneurs spot opportunities and use their skills to meet customer needs.
Assessed through coursework. September – December (Year 10)
Component 2: Planning for and Pitching an Enterprise Activity Students design their own business idea, create a business plan and pitch it to an audience just like on Dragon’s Den! They will then review their performance and identify strengths and ways to improve.
Assessed through coursework. January – May (Year 10)
Component 3: Promotion and Finance for Enterprise Students learn about how businesses promote their products and how to manage money effectively to make a profit.
Assessed through an external exam. September – June (Year 11)

External examination (40%).
